Mark English was put in a coma after being hit in Brisbane on Monday afternoon. His 25-year-old son Morgan Isles-English was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm afterwards.
Police allege the pair had a 'brief verbal exchange' before the younger English allegedly attacked his father.
The 53-year-old died on Tuesday in hospital. Police have upgraded the charge to unlawful striking causing death.
According to The Brisbane Times, he had not spoken to his son for four years before the incident.
Mr English was knocked out and lay on the street face down as his female partner, Varri Telfer, performed first aid and waited for an ambulance.
He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with life threatening injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma.
On Tuesday Queensland Police confirmed the man had died
